A famous baseball player has been arrested for drunk driving in the state of Illinois. Carlton Fisk, the Hall of Fame catcher, was arrested after police spotted him sleeping inside of his vehicle. The man not only faces drunk driving charges, but also other misdemeanors related to the incident.
Authorities allege that Fisk was spotted behind the wheel of his truck sleeping in the middle of a cornfield. There was an open bottle of vodka inside of the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital to be treated, and then freed from police custody once he made bail.
In addition to the drunk driving charge, Fisk has been accused of a lane use violation and illegal transportation of alcohol. Authorities believe that he may have been unconscious when they happened upon his truck in the cornfield. The player is best known for winning game 6 of the 1975 World Series when he hit a walk-off home run.
There has been no word on whether Fisk was issued a sobriety or blood-alcohol test. In addition, the report doesn’t seem to indicate that the man was actually driving when the arrest was made. As his case moves forward, additional information could be revealed that may help this man with his defense.
A conviction on drunk driving charges could be detrimental to a defendant’s future employment possibilities and also land someone in jail for a period of time. These possibilities could demonstrate how important it is for defendants to be aware of their rights so that they can fight the charges made against them in an Illinois court.
