Drunk driving charge filed against Illinois man

On Behalf of | May 6, 2013 | Drunk Driving-DUI Charges

A crash early in the morning of Sunday, April 28 has led to the arrest of a local man, according to police. An Illinois sheriff’s office has reported that a 19-year-old man has been charged with drunk driving after crashing his vehicle into a ditch. The man is currently in custody.

Police allege the man was traveling northbound on an Illinois highway when he misjudged and overshot a turn. His vehicle, an early model SUV, crashed into a ditch at the side of the road. Shortly thereafter, he was taken into police custody and remanded to the local jail, where he was subjected to a blood alcohol test.

The test revealed the man was carrying a blood alcohol level of .13, above the legal limit in Illinois for safe operation of a vehicle. In addition to the drunk driving charge, the man has also been charged with a failure to reduce speed as well as two further alcohol-related charges: illegal transportation of alcohol and illegal consumption by a minor. As of this writing, no court date has been set.

In a case like this, in which the evidence of drunk driving seems incontrovertible, the best course of action for the defendant may be to consider a plea bargain for a lighter sentence. It may be beneficial for the defendant to familiarize himself with local and Illinois state laws governing drunk driving charges in order to get a clearer picture of the sort of plea bargain that may be available to him. A thorough knowledge of these laws will likely provide a stronger backing for any plea bargain that might be attempted.
