Do not take DUI cues from celebrities

On Behalf of | Jun 13, 2014 | Drunk Driving-DUI Charges

If you have been arrested on charges of driving under the influence, it is important to take your cues from your attorney as opposed to many celebrities who have recently been in the news as a result of similar charges. This may seem like a commonsense statement. However, many individuals do end up taking their cues from celebrity culture when it comes to drunk driving and they end up paying dearly for their decisions to do so.

It is understandable that many people look to celebrity examples when grappling with all kinds of issues from diet to parenting tips. In many ways, celebrities provide our society with examples of how to behave and how not to behave in real-time. However, it is important to remember that celebrities are simply human. And when it comes to serious matters like responding to DUI charges, it is a far better idea to consult a legal expert than it is to respond in whatever ways you have seen celebrities react in similar situations.

For example, it is a good idea to stay off of social media while your DUI case is pending. Do not follow Khloe Kardashian’s example of posting her DUI mugshot to Instagram and referring to her sister’s boyfriend, who was similarly arrested on DUI charges, as her partner in crime. This kind of posting could be used as an admission of guilt or as evidence that you have no remorse for the actions you have taken.

If you ever doubt whether or not you should follow a celebrity’s example in the wake of an arrest, consult your attorney before acting. It is far, far better to be safe than both notorious and sorry.
