Police issue drug charges to 3 people

Authorities in Illinois report having taken three people into custody on drug charges following an investigation in Sycamore. The accused are a 23-year-old man and two 21-year-old women, and the incident took place on May 27. The man has been charged with the unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver in a school zone, the punishment for which can be up to 30 years in prison if he's convicted.

Sources report that police searched the women's apartment and uncovered a number of controlled substances, including prescription drugs, marijuana and Xanax. While the women have since been released on their own recognizance, the man remains at the Dekalb County Jail pending a $150,000 bond. Police accuse him of being the primary dealer of drugs in the case.

The women, who share an apartment, were both charged with the unlawful possession of a controlled substance. In addition, one of them was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say that they hope the incident reduces the level of narcotics being sold in the area.

Someone who is facing a drug charge may wish to consider enlisting the services of an attorney who can help in the construction of a viable defense. In certain circumstances, it may be possible to contest the constitutionality of a search that led to an arrest and thereby have the charges dismissed on procedural grounds. However, even when this isn't the case, an attorney can nevertheless advocate for the client to receive a degree of leniency and contest the prosecution's evidence wherever possible. While it's not always possible to avoid conviction entirely, mitigating factors may be used to lessen the severity of the penalties that are ultimately imposed.
