Illinois woman faces felony charge, misdemeanor accusations

A woman accused of booby trapping a former boyfriend’s home is currently facing criminal charges, according to local law enforcement. Illinois authorities have filed more than one felony charge against the 28-year-old woman, who is suspected of having tried to poison and otherwise injure the man who used to be her partner. It is unknown whether she remains in custody.

According to reports, the woman’s former boyfriend had her evicted from their shared property on Dec. 1 after expressing concern about her allegedly aberrant behavior. When he allowed her to return to collect personal items, she apparently threatened to burn the space to the ground while he was inside. The man left the premises.

When he sent a friend to see whether she was still in the home, the friend allegedly found her cutting the cord to an electric heating blanket. She was quoted as being very aggressive and allegedly went on to explain her plans to the friend in question. This explanation reportedly included admissions of putting rat poison in the coffee container, urinating in mouthwash and placing the aforementioned damaged cord in his bed. She stands charged with a felony count of tampering with food, and two misdemeanor charges related to trespassing and criminal property damage. No court date has yet been set.

Police are said to have discovered the rat poison she allegedly placed in the coffee. Coupled with the testimony of the friend, it could make for compelling evidence for the prosecution. However, even if Illinois prosecutors have enough evidence to press forward with the felony charge, the described actions of the accused may not be indicative of sound mental health. The defense may consider seeking a plea bargain dependent on psychological assessments and possible mandatory counseling for the defendant.
