Police say college students accepted mail delivery of drugs

Two Western Illinois University students were accused of accepting a delivery of marijuana to their Macomb residence through the U.S. mail. The two 21-year-old men were taken into custody in early September after officers executed a search of their residence. One of the men received a charge for manufacturing and delivering between 30 and 500 grams of marijuana. The other man was handed an additional charge for manufacture, delivery and possession of a controlled substance.

During the search and seizure, Macomb Police Department officers and McDonough County Sheriff's deputies allegedly discovered marijuana that was packaged for delivery. Additional packing materials were also found in the residence along with digital scales, cash and the prescription drug Adderall.

According to authorities that were involved in the raid, an investigation into a far-reaching marijuana trafficking operation is still ongoing. In addition to the Macomb Police Department and the McDonough County Sherriff's Office, combined drug units from the WIU Office of Public Safety and police departments from Bushnell, Colchester and Blandinsville assisted in the case. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service also helped with the investigation.

Individuals facing drug possession charges may want to consider employing the services of an attorney. In some cases, a criminal defense attorney could help a person in this situation dispute the drug charges by presenting credible evidence that could possibly prove that the controlled substances did not belong to the defendant. In order to weaken the case being presented by the prosecution, an attorney may also work to uncover any instances during the raid where police may have acted unlawfully.
