Police arrest Illinois man for 22nd revoked license offense

Officers with the Chicago Police Department reported a 62-year-old Chicago man was arrested on Jan. 14 for an alleged 22nd driving with a revoked license offense. According to reports, the stop and the man's subsequent arrest occurred around 8:40 a.m. in south Riverside.

Allegedly, the man's license had been suspended since at least 2003 due to multiple prior DUI convictions. Since his DUI conviction in 2003, he has reportedly been arrested 22 times for continuing to drive even though his license had been revoked. He reportedly has four prior DUI convictions on his record.

Officers indicated they stopped the man for driving 56 mph in a 35 mph zone. Upon learning of the status of his license, he was arrested at the scene. The man has been charged with felony aggravated driving on a revoked license, no vehicle insurance and aggravated speeding. Authorities also seized the man's car. There was no word on if he remained in custody or if bond had been set in his case.

One of the consequences of a drunk driving conviction is that the person's license will be suspended. Multiple DUI convictions can lead to increasingly longer periods of license suspension or revocation, and if a person does not take the necessary steps to seek reinstatement of their license and continues to drive, they risk getting charged with driving under suspension. Furthermore, each conviction for driving under suspension or revocation may lead to further suspensions or revocations, potentially setting a person into a vicious cycle of criminal justice system involvement. People who are charged with DUI may want help from a defense attorney in order to try to avoid the license consequences a conviction on the charge may bring.
