6 people arrested for drug possession in Wood River

In late July, Illinois authorities arrested six people during a series of drug busts over a two-day period. The incidents took place in and around Wood River.

According to a press release issued by the Wood River Police Department, officers executed a search warrant at a home on the 300 block of Illinois Street at around 6:50 a.m. on July 24. During the operation, a 43-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were taken into custody. The woman was charged with unlawful delivery of methamphetamine and held on $50,000 bail. The man was charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine and held on $25,000 bail.

In addition, at around 1:15 p.m. on July 23, officers pulled over a car driven by a 50-year-old woman. During the stop, a drug dog signaled that drugs were present, causing the officers to search the vehicle. They allegedly found illegal drugs and arrested the woman for unlawful possession of a controlled substance. She was transported to jail and held on $15,000 bail. At around 8:55 p.m., officers were also called to a house on the 50th block of Carrollwood drive to investigate a report of three unwanted individuals. Inside the home, they found two men, ages 50 and 59, and a woman, age 43, occupying a bedroom. They were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Each defendant was held on a $25,000 bond.

Individuals convicted on drug charges can face serious consequences, including lengthy prison terms and heavy fines. However, a criminal defense attorney could represent a defendant throughout all legal proceedings and work to obtain a more positive outcome. For example, in some cases, it may be possible to challenge the manner in which evidence was obtained, which could lead to it being excluded. In other circumstances, it may be best to negotiate a plea deal, which could allow the defendant to plead guilty to less serious charges.
