Illinois man faces felony charge

A man accused of shooting another man last year is finally coming to trial, but according to court records he is seeking new representation. The Illinois resident faces more than one felony charge related to the incident, which allegedly happened on March 9 of last year. He is set to head to court in November.

Police records allege the man, a 25-year-old resident of Galesburg, shot at another man outside a local inn. His brother, a 22-year-old, is suspected of serving as the getaway driver in this alleged crime. The 25-year-old was not taken in by police until July of this year. He now faces charges including aggravated discharge of a weapon, and possession by a felon.

According to court documents, the man was displeased with the level of representation he received from the court-appointed defender, and so is seeking alternative representation. He is currently in prison on a $500,000 bond. There is no word as to whether or not the man has secured new representation external to the court system, but for now he is being represented by another public defender.

When a case has stretched out as long as this one has, it is difficult to say how valid the evidence presented by the Illinois prosecution will be. Defense may benefit from a careful analysis of any evidence brought forward to suggest the man is guilty of any felony charge filed against him. This includes the arrest record, as considerable time passed between the alleged incident and the date an arrest was made.
