Illinois officer accused of sex crime in federal court

A sex crime accusation can bring the rancor and outrage of a community and could potentially prevent someone from receiving a fair trial. Recently, an Illinois sheriff’s sergeant wound up in legal trouble after accusations of his participation in child pornography. However, this is not the first time the man has been arrested and accused of a sex crime. The first arrest came in February.

In February, he was accused of transporting a young boy to another state in 2008 to both abuse him sexually and produce child pornography. That pornography was allegedly uploaded to the Internet. In that case he is facing 10 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

In the most recent case, he was arrested without bond. He has been federally charged with sex crimes including aggravated sexual abuse of a child and producing child pornography by sexual exploitation of a child. It is unknown whether the two charges are related to the same incident or stem from two separate occasions. The man has since been placed on administrative leave and stripped of his law enforcement duties.

A sex crime case can arouse scandal and disgust within communities in Illinois and around the nation. However, it is important to remember that sometimes such accusations prove to be false. This man will likely have an uphill legal battle ahead of him so it is critical that he is aware of his legal rights. Conviction on sex crimes can net a person significant prison time, making it even more important for him to present a relevant and valid defense.
