Twin sisters were recently arrested on similar charges within the same 24-hour period of one another. Authorities suspect that both Illinois women may have been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, which prompted the arrests. Although they have both been charged with DUI, the sisters garnered varying additional charges.
At nearly 2 a.m. on a recent Saturday morning, the first sister was arrested after she supposedly struck another vehicle while backing her car out of a parking spot. Police say that her vehicle was unregistered and that she did not have insurance. She was also cited for unsafe backing while attempting to leave the local bar’s parking lot.
Almost exactly 24 hours later, the second sister was arrested for DUI. Police say that she drove into a street sign and then fled the accident site. In addition to a DUI charge, she was also charged for failing to drive on the correct side of the road as well as evading responsibility.
No injuries resulted from the alleged drunk driving accidents. However, allegations of driving under the influence are substantial and can result in serious ramifications, such as the suspension of a license or even jail time. As the cases against these Illinois sisters move forward, they will each be protected by the legal presumption of innocence. Every DUI case is different, and the accusations against each sister must be proved independent of the separate accusations against the other. Neither woman can be convicted based upon the fact that her sister is facing similar charges.
