Illinois student arrested after reenacting “Fifty Shades of Grey”

On Behalf of | Mar 2, 2015 | Criminal Defense

A freshman University of Illinois at Chicago student who claimed he was acting out scenes from the recent movie “Fifty Shades of Grey” has been arrested for sexually assaulting a female student. Authorities said the incident took place on Feb. 21.

According to prosecutors, the liberal arts and sciences major brought a 19-year-old female UIC student to his dorm room, bound her hands and feet, covered her mouth and beat her with a belt. He is then accused of punching her and sexually assaulting her while she pleaded with him to stop. When the defendant’s roommate attempted to enter the room, the defendant allegedly blocked the door to keep him out. The victim, who had a previous relationship with the defendant, was eventually able to leave the room and contact police.

Around an hour after the alleged crime, the defendant updated his Facebook status to say he was “finally satisfied.” The defendant, who was reportedly active in several UIC leadership programs, faces charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault. A Cook County judge set his bail at $500,000.

Anyone facing sexual assault charges may face very serious, long-term consequences, including significant prison time and fines, if convicted. They may also find their educational and employment opportunities jeopardized. However, they may be able to help their situation by consulting with a criminal defense attorney who can review the specifics of the case for inconsistencies or inaccuracies that could be used to the client’s advantage. The attorney may also be able to enter into a plea agreement with prosecutors that reduces the most serious charges and protects the client’s future.
