Man facing charges after drug bust

On Behalf of | Dec 12, 2016 | Drug Charges

A 58-year-old man was charged with drug offenses following a three-year investigation by various law enforcement agencies in Illinois. The man was taken from his Rockford home and into police custody on Nov. 22 after the Rockford Police Department Narcotics Unit and the Drug Enforcement Agency Rockford Task Force executed a search warrant.

On Dec. 1, the Rockford police chief issued a public statement about the investigation claiming that police had seized approximately $8.6 million worth of controlled substances. During the search and seizure, officers allegedly seized one kilogram of fentanyl, 19 kilograms of methamphetamine and 50 kilograms of cocaine. Police say that handguns, four vehicles and $116,000 in cash was also seized from the home.

The accused man was handed three counts for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance along with one count for delivery of a controlled substance. A woman who was also present in the home during the search and seizure did not receive any charges. Police announced that they were also looking for a 26-year-old man who they believe is connected to the alleged drug activities. The man is wanted for two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Police will sometimes detain every person who is present in a home during a search and seizure. If an individual was handed drug charges even though they were not involved in alleged drug activities, they may want to speak to an attorney about building a defense. A lawyer may help the defendant prove innocence.
