Illinois doctor facing drug charge

Illinois doctor facing drug charge

A medical doctor is facing serious allegations that may affect his ability to practice medicine in the state, according to local sources. The Illinois-based doctor is up on a drug charge related to unlawful possession and delivery of a controlled substance. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges and is currently awaiting a trial date.

Court records indicate the doctor stands accused of allegedly prescribing a variety of controlled substances to his patients, including such well-known drugs as Oxycodone and Xanax. The criminal nature of this charge stems from the allegation that he prescribed these medications without properly evaluating the patients in question first. He is also accused of trading sexual favors for these substances in several instances.

Illinois state officials have temporarily suspended the doctor’s license to practice for the duration of the investigation and subsequent trial. Police raided the man’s offices back in August, though it is unclear whether or not they had secured a warrant to execute the search. It is also unknown what evidence, if any, was turned up by the raid. He is scheduled to return to court in November.

Illinois prosecutors will have their work cut out for them in proving the drug charge in this case. It will have to be proven that the doctor willingly and knowingly prescribed medications without appropriate steps taken in advance, which may prove difficult depending on what paperwork is available to corroborate their claims. It will be even more difficult, barring material witnesses, to prove the allegations that he traded sex for drugs. Ultimately, the doctor is innocent until proven guilty.
