Illinois man free on bond assaults woman, steals purse

A Chicago man who was out on bail after allegedly robbing a 70-year-old man in August was detained again on Nov. 15 for allegedly assaulting a woman and stealing her purse. According to authorities, the 19-year-old man pushed the victim to the ground on the 3100 block of West 39th Place, hit her multiple times and grabbed her purse. He was apprehended nearby, and the victim identified him.

The man was free on bail after being accused of beating and robbing a Cicero man on Aug. 3. Police claim that he and an accomplice were masked and armed when they followed the 70-year-old jeweler from Chicago’s Swap-O-Rama to a home in Riverside. They then allegedly attacked the jeweler, threw him to the ground and assaulted him. They allegedly stole $30,000 of jewelry in the heist. Both men were later identified in a police lineup.

The 19-year-old was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of armed robbery, and he paid 10 percent of an $85,000 bond to be released from jail. His 21-year-old alleged accomplice was charged with one count of aggravated battery of a senior citizen and two counts of armed robbery. He also posted bond but was later picked up by federal immigration officials.
