Man faces drug crime charges in Illinois

A man out on parole who police believe to have taken part in drug trafficking is currently in custody pending a court date, according to local sources. Illinois police arrested the 27-year-old Chicago man at his home on April 13. He now faces multiple drug crime charges associated with his alleged activity.

According to the police report, officers received complaints that narcotics were allegedly being sold from the local address in Chicago. Police proceeded to investigate the situation, though no details of this investigation were included with this report. They then executed a search warrant and entered the premises on the evening of the date in question.

Upon entering the residence, police say they found what they believed to be evidence of crack, cocaine, sums of money and other items they say are typically associated with the drug trade. There is no word as to what those items were. Police arrested the man onsite and charged him with possession with intent to deliver for both crack and cannabis, though they did not mention finding marijuana in the home. He also faces several smaller, unrelated charges.

Drug crime charges are not necessarily easy to prove in an Illinois court of law. Prosecutors will foremost have to provide proof that the police acted within their rights by entering the household, and will also have to verify the materials they allegedly found were indeed drugs or drug-related paraphernalia. The defense will wish to review the arrest record to ensure the man's rights were observed throughout every step of the arrest process.
