Defining the role of an accomplice

An Illinois resident who knowingly helps or encourages another person to commit a crime may be an accomplice. However, this is generally only true if the individual knows what he or she is doing is wrong and has an intent to aid in the commission of a crime. There are several ways in which an individual may aid or abet a criminal.

Ride-sharing apps do not appear to reduce drunk driving

Uber, a company with a ride-sharing app that allows people to hire independent drivers, claims that its service prevents drunk driving. Although many Illinois residents have likely used the service after having had too much to drink, the ride-sharing service does not appear to be reducing the numbers of alcohol-related traffic deaths.
